Holidays Around the World: A Global Celebration of Festive Traditions
Embark on a cultural journey around the World Showcase, where the traditions of Christmas, Hanukkah, and other winter festivals from across the globe come to life through storytelling, cuisine, and song.
Decorations & Ambiance:
World Showcase Pavilions: Each nation showcases its unique heritage. In Mexico, a festive mercado surrounds a poinsettia-filled pyramid. Norway displays a charming Julenisse (gnome) and giant, straw-made Yule Goats. Germany’s plaza is lined with nutcrackers and a model train village, while Italy boasts a elegant, presepio (nativity scene). The American Adventure presents a classic, all-American Christmas with wreaths and garlands. In Japan, the pagoda is framed by Kadomatsu (traditional bamboo decorations). Morocco features subtle, elegant lanterns and ornaments. France exudes sophistication with a Père Noël and a light-up Eiffel Tower. The United Kingdom feels like a Dickensian village, and Canada showcases a rustic, lumberjack-style Christmas.
Front Entrance:Â A majestic “Holidays Around the World” topiary display and a giant, beautifully decorated Christmas tree welcome guests, setting the stage for the international festivities within.
Character Meet and Greets & Storytellers:
Santa Claus: Discover different versions of St. Nick, including Père Noël in France and Father Christmas in the UK.
The Candlelight Processional:Â This is Epcot’s holiday cornerstone. A celebrity narrator (from a roster of famous voices) reads the biblical story of Christmas from the Gospel of Luke, backed by a full, 50-piece live orchestra and a magnificent mass choir. It’s a profoundly moving and powerful performance held multiple times each evening in the America Gardens Theatre. Dining packages are highly recommended for guaranteed seating.
Holiday Storytellers: Don’t miss these captivating performances: La Befana (the kindly witch) in Italy; The Story of the Dragon in China; Sigrid and the Christmas Gnome in Norway; and Hanukkah Storytellers in The American Adventure pavilion, who share the history and traditions of the Festival of Lights.
Famous Holiday Treats & The Festival Kitchens:
Holiday Cookie Stroll: A signature activity. Purchase a passport and collect stamps as you sample five distinct cookies from around the World Showcase. Complete the stroll and receive a special sixth cookie as a prize. Look for the Salmon Cookie in Norway, Linzer Cookie in Germany, and Chocolate Pecan Tart in the American Adventure.
Specialty Items: Each holiday kitchen offers unique bites and sips. Highlights include the Schinkennudeln (Cheesy Pasta Gratin with Ham and Onions) in Germany, the Coq au Vin in France, and the Black and White Cookie in the New York Holiday Kitchen.
