This is the only Universal hotel situated inside the Epic Universe theme park. Not near it. Not adjacent to it.
Inside. When you stay at Helios, you are quite literally part of the park itself. There’s an almost surreal quality to waking up, drawing your curtains, and seeing roller coasters racing, fountains dancing, and guests already exploring the lands below your window. It doesn’t feel like you’re close to the action—it feels like you’re living in it.
From the moment we entered the hotel lobby, the tone was set. The interior design is breathtaking, blending celestial and mythological themes that make the hotel feel grand yet welcoming. There’s an elegance here that speaks to Universal’s commitment to creating something entirely new. You feel transported, like you’ve stepped into a parallel world where imagination has been turned into architecture.
Our suite—one of only fourteen “How to Train Your Dragon” themed rooms in the hotel—was the perfect blend of fun, fantasy, and functionality.
The dragon-themed kids’ room was beautifully designed, with rustic wooden details that gave it the feel of a cozy Viking cabin.
Dragons peeked out from wallpaper and artwork, the beds were tucked into alcoves that looked like they were built by Hiccup himself, and the lighting cast a warm, golden glow that made the room feel magical yet restful. It was whimsical enough to spark joy and excitement, especially for young fans of the franchise, but it wasn’t overdone or cartoonish. The theming was immersive and sophisticated—clearly designed with care and attention to detail.
Connected to the kids’ room was a small but cozy living area with a pull-out sofa, TV, and sitting space perfect for downtime between park visits. It added a layer of comfort that made the suite feel like a home away from home.
Then came the master bedroom—and with it, the true highlight of our stay: the Park View.
This wasn’t just a nice view. It was a full-on front-row seat to the magic of Epic Universe. We could see everything. The dazzling, dueling coasters of Stardust Racers raced across the sky, twisting and soaring against a backdrop of perfectly designed landscapes.
We watched as guests wandered through the themed lands below us, each footstep reminding us that we were inside something extraordinary. At night, the lights of the park glowed like a dream outside our window. We had an unobstructed view of the fountain show, which danced to music and lights in perfect synchronization—and we watched it all from our bed. No crowds, no rushing to find a viewing spot. Just us, in our room, immersed in the experience.
There’s something indescribable about sitting in your own suite and feeling like you’re still in the theme park. Not just near it, not remembering it from earlier that day—but actively a part of it. The energy, the visuals, the sound—it was all there. The Park View room made the entire suite feel like an extension of Epic Universe, and for that reason alone, we would never consider staying in any other room at this hotel.
But the suite wasn’t just about the theming and the views. It was thoughtfully equipped with conveniences that make travel easier, especially for families. There was a kitchenette with a mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker, along with enough counter space and cabinets to prepare light snacks or meals.
The bathroom was split-style, offering a double-sink vanity in one area and a separate room with a full bathtub, shower, and toilet. That layout made it so much easier for our family to get ready in the morning without feeling rushed or cramped.
What truly made the suite stand out, though, was the balance it struck. It was exciting and themed enough to delight any How to Train Your Dragon fan, but it also had moments of elegance and calm—like the master bedroom and that stunning view—that gave adults a sense of relaxation and retreat. It was a suite designed for families, but with enough sophistication that it never felt like it was “just for the kids.”
In the end, what Helios Grand Hotel and the Dragon Suite gave us was more than a stay—it was a fully immersive experience that extended beyond the parks and into our accommodations. It was waking up to roller coasters in motion. It was watching a fountain show in pajamas. It was tucking the kids into beds beneath dragon lanterns and then sipping coffee as the sunrise lit up Epic Universe outside our window.
