Guests staying at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge should be aware of an upcoming transportation change that may impact travel plans in early 2026. Disney has announced that the resort’s boat dock will close for routine refurbishment beginning January 12, 2026, with maintenance work continuing through early April 2026.
During the initial phase of the project, boat transportation to Magic Kingdom and other nearby destinations will be suspended from January 12 through January 30, 2026. While refurbishment work will continue beyond that date, Disney expects boat service to resume before the project is fully completed.
Throughout the closure, complimentary bus transportation to all theme parks will remain available, ensuring guests can still reach their destinations. However, travelers should plan for slightly longer travel times, as bus service typically takes longer than the scenic boat ride many guests prefer when traveling to Magic Kingdom.
“Unexpected refurbishments like this can absolutely throw a wrench into what guests expect to be a seamless Disney vacation,” said Natali Bohm, owner of Axis Travel Group. “That’s exactly why working with a Disney-specialized travel advisor matters. Our team stays up to date on resort refurbishments, ride closures, restaurant updates, and transportation changes—so our clients are never caught off guard.”
The temporary closure affects the popular boat launch that connects Wilderness Lodge with Magic Kingdom and nearby resorts, a transportation option many guests factor into their daily plans. Travelers with reservations during this period may want to adjust schedules accordingly or allow extra time when heading to the parks.
Axis Travel Group reminds guests that Disney regularly schedules refurbishments to maintain the high standards guests expect—but timing and details can change. Booking with a knowledgeable travel advisor ensures you have the most current information and personalized guidance if plans need to be adjusted.
For travelers considering a stay at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge or planning a Walt Disney World vacation during 2026, Axis Travel Group’s agents are actively monitoring all resort refurbishments and closures to help create smooth, stress-free vacations—no surprises included.
