Disney fans have a new reason to get excited about future Walt Disney World vacations. Disney has unveiled the first concept art for The Wetlands, an expansive pool and recreation complex coming to the highly anticipated Disney Lakeshore Lodge, set to open along the shores of Bay Lake in Summer 2027.
The newly released artwork showcases a waterfront retreat designed to immerse guests in nature while offering a variety of recreational experiences for families. The Wetlands will be located just beyond the resort lobby and feature multiple pools, interactive children’s play areas, a lazy river, and picturesque views of Bay Lake.Â
A Pocahontas-Inspired Storytelling Experience
Disney Imagineers have drawn inspiration from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Pocahontas, specifically the beloved song “Colors of the Wind.” The theme centers around the lyric referencing the heron and the otter as friends, which serves as the foundation for two unique children’s play areas.
Heron Shores will offer a dry play environment where young explorers can climb, discover, and engage with nature-inspired elements. Nearby, Otter Springs will provide an interactive water play experience complete with splash features and activities designed for younger guests.
Disney’s goal is to create immersive spaces that encourage children to feel connected to the natural world while adding another layer of storytelling to the resort experience.
Two Pools Offer Different Experiences
At the heart of The Wetlands will be Lakeside Lagoon, the resort’s feature pool. The zero-entry pool will allow guests to gradually wade into the water and will include a spiral waterslide for added excitement.
For guests seeking a more relaxing atmosphere, Perspective Pond will serve as a quieter leisure pool complete with a whirlpool spa. Perhaps most exciting, Disney says this location will offer views of the nightly Magic Kingdom fireworks, making it a perfect evening retreat after a day in the parks.
A Lazy River with Bay Lake Views
One of the standout features of The Wetlands will be Daydream River, a scenic lazy river designed to wind through the recreation area. Guests will be able to float past the surrounding landscapes, children’s play zones, and pool areas while enjoying a peaceful escape from the excitement of the parks.
With two pools, dedicated children’s areas, and a lazy river, The Wetlands is shaping up to be much more than a standard hotel pool complex—it’s becoming a destination within the resort itself.
A Hidden Tribute for Disney History Fans
Longtime Walt Disney World fans will appreciate a special detail hidden within the pathways of The Wetlands. Disney has confirmed that guests will find a commemorative plaque honoring River Country, the beloved water park that once occupied this very area along Bay Lake.
The scenic walking paths throughout the resort will also feature educational elements highlighting local plants and wildlife, adding another layer of immersion to the resort’s nature-focused theme.
Opening Summer 2027
Disney Lakeshore Lodge will offer guests a unique waterfront experience just a short boat ride from Magic Kingdom. As with other Disney Resort hotels, guests can expect benefits such as complimentary transportation throughout Walt Disney World and valuable theme park perks available to on-site visitors.
With construction continuing and more details expected in the coming months, Disney Lakeshore Lodge is already becoming one of the most anticipated resort openings at Walt Disney World.
