Visitors to Magic Kingdom are getting their first look at a beautifully refreshed Cinderella Castle, as Walt Disney World has officially completed its extensive castle repainting project.
The iconic centerpiece of Magic Kingdom now features a refined color palette inspired by the castle’s original 1971 appearance, bringing back a classic look while enhancing architectural details that make the beloved landmark shine brighter than ever.
Disney first revealed plans for the updated color scheme during Destination D23 in August 2025. After months of careful work involving multiple Disney teams, the project is now complete and ready to welcome guests from around the world.
According to Disney, the repainting effort was much more than a simple cosmetic update. Teams from Walt Disney Imagineering, Facility Asset Management, Disney Live Entertainment, Operations, Project Development, and PhotoPass collaborated to bring the vision to life.
Nathan Collahuazo, an Associate Project Manager with Disney’s Facility Asset Management team, described the assignment as a dream opportunity.
“It’s the icon of not only Walt Disney World, but Disney as a whole,” Collahuazo said. “Being told that you’re going to change how this looks for the foreseeable future was really exciting to me and a dream come true.”
The project also presented unique challenges. Before work could begin on the castle’s front facade, crews had to completely drain the surrounding moat, install temporary dams, and carefully position large boom lifts to access hard-to-reach areas.
Disney Imagineering selected the new palette with history in mind. The refreshed design highlights rich blue rooftops, enhanced stonework, and gleaming gold accents that better capture the Florida sunshine while honoring the castle’s original appearance.
“When given the opportunity to repaint the castle, it was really important to us to look at the rich history we have here,” said Walt Disney Imagineering Senior Creative Director Chris Weck. “We wanted to make sure we were bringing back that classic 1971 color palette, but in a more refined way.”
One of the most impressive aspects of the project was that it took place in full view of guests. Rather than hiding the work behind construction walls, Disney carefully scheduled painting activities to minimize disruption. Cranes and equipment were lowered each afternoon so guests could continue taking the perfect castle photos from Main Street, U.S.A.
After weeks of work at heights reaching 150 feet above the park, painters completed every roofline, wall, and decorative accent. With the moat refilled and the final touches complete, Cinderella Castle is once again picture-perfect for guests visiting Magic Kingdom.
