Planning a trip to Walt Disney World can feel overwhelming, especially when traveling with kids who have selective eating habits. The magic of Disney shouldn’t be overshadowed by mealtime stress, though! With a little preparation and smart planning, you can ensure your vacation is full of fun and, most importantly, happy eaters. Let’s dive into some top tips to make your trip to Disney smooth, stress-free, and full of magical moments!
One of the best tools available for planning meals at Walt Disney World is the My Disney Experience app. Not only does this app help with managing your park tickets and reservations, but it also offers a wealth of resources to make your dining experience easier. You can browse menus for nearly every restaurant on property before you even leave home! Simply search for your desired restaurant or look up all the dining locations within a specific park or resort. This will allow you to see exactly what’s available and whether it’s suitable for your picky eaters.
I highly recommend planning ahead and checking out the menus for your resort hotel restaurants. You’ll spend a good amount of time there, and knowing what’s on offer will make those resort meals much easier to navigate. In addition to browsing menus, the app allows you to pretend to make a mobile order to see the options at your fingertips. Taking some time to plan meals ahead of time can help alleviate any meal-related stress before your trip even starts.
2. Secure Advanced Dining Reservations
At Disney World, especially with picky eaters in tow, having at least one sit-down meal a day can make a huge difference. Having a familiar meal in a relaxing setting gives everyone a chance to unwind and enjoy some downtime while taking a break from the park crowds and Florida’s sometimes unpredictable weather. Whether it’s escaping the midday sun or a sudden rainstorm, having a designated sit-down restaurant for the day will provide your family a space to regroup and recharge.
That’s where Advanced Dining Reservations (ADRs) come in. Disney restaurants tend to fill up quickly, especially the more popular ones, so making reservations as early as possible is essential. Plus, knowing that a nice meal is already planned for the day removes a lot of stress and uncertainty. You can enjoy the day’s adventures without worrying about where to eat or whether there will be availability when it’s time for lunch or dinner.
3. Take Advantage of Grocery Delivery
If you’re traveling with a child who has food sensitivities or is just picky about what they eat, bringing your own snacks into the park can make a big difference. Fortunately, your Disney Resort Hotel makes it easy for grocery delivery service that allows you to have snacks, drinks, and even some easy-to-make meals delivered directly to your hotel room.
This option is fantastic for picky eaters who might need a taste of home while in the parks. You can pre-plan your grocery order online, choosing from a variety of snacks that your little ones enjoy. I recommend doing this ahead of time and scheduling your delivery to arrive the day you check-in. Disney’s luggage services will even keep your groceries cool until you arrive, and the hotel rooms have a small beverage cooler where you can store your items.
Keep in mind that while you can bring soft-sided coolers into the park, you cannot bring in loose ice. A good trick is to store ice in plastic baggies so that you can keep your drinks and snacks cool throughout the day. This can be a huge relief for parents who need a quick snack option for kids that are a bit sensitive to unfamiliar foods.
Where to Eat at Walt Disney World?
There’s no shortage of dining options at Walt Disney World, which is great, but it can also be a little overwhelming when you’re trying to find places that cater to picky eaters. Whether you’re looking for familiar comfort foods or just want to know that your kids will eat happily, it’s all about choosing the right spots. Here are some of our family’s favorite dining options from each park to help make your decision a little easier:
Magic Kingdom: Liberty Tree Tavern
Magic Kingdom is full of magical experiences, and one of our favorite spots to eat is Liberty Tree Tavern. This charming, colonial-style restaurant is fun for everyone in the family, but it’s especially great for picky eaters. The restaurant is divided into rooms, each themed around different historical figures, such as Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson, which adds a touch of fun to the dining experience. The Patriot’s Platter is a classic comfort food option that includes salad and rolls, mashed potatoes, turkey, stuffing, and a decadent dessert—Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake—that will satisfy anyone with a sweet tooth. This hearty, traditional meal is perfect for those who crave familiar, home-cooked comfort food.
Animal Kingdom: Tusker House
Animal Kingdom is known for its adventurous food offerings, which may not always be a hit with picky eaters. However, breakfast at Tusker House is a fantastic option for families with kids who may not be as adventurous with food. This restaurant features a character dining experience where you can meet Mickey, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy dressed in their safari gear. While the breakfast menu features classic offerings like scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage, it also includes Simba waffles, a fun Disney twist that kids will love! I recommend booking a 10 a.m. reservation so you can enjoy the morning hours in the park before grabbing the last breakfast meal of the day.
Hollywood Studios: Roundup Rodeo BBQ
If your family loves BBQ, you won’t want to miss Roundup Rodeo BBQ in Hollywood Studios. This Toy Story-themed restaurant takes you into Andy’s backyard where everything is oversized and the food is family-style and super tasty. The meal starts with a hearty salad and biscuits, followed by a variety of BBQ meats, mac and cheese, and multiple sides. It’s a great option because it provides a little something for everyone, and there’s plenty of food to go around, so even the hungriest appetites will be satisfied!
Epcot: Teppan Edo
Epcot is known for its diverse culinary offerings, but for families with picky eaters, the variety can be a bit much. If you’re looking for something fun and familiar, Teppan Edo in the Japan Pavilion is a great choice. This hibachi-style dining experience is simple yet delicious. The menu includes options like white rice, vegetables, noodles, and a selection of proteins such as chicken, steak, or shrimp. The best part? The hibachi chefs perform a fun, interactive show while they cook, adding a magical touch to the experience. It’s a great option for both food and entertainment!
